She stayed silent, and I just walked past her. I didn’t look back, but I could hear that man saying something to her, like asking her why would she want a son like me. She should just leave me.
One thing I don’t understand about this man. He wasn’t getting angry much, and yet he supposedly loved her enough to marry my mother. He was staying in our house with my mother. I could guess that the man must be mooching off her. It angered me so much that I wanted to beat the shit out of him but seeing how my mother let him be, I just left it to her.
After we were done shopping, Caren and I entered the parking lot, and we heard someone arguing. When I turned to the sounds, I saw my mom and that man. He was pulling her by the hand towards their car.
Instantly, I ran towards them and shoved him off and held my mom. “Mom, what happened?”
She was crying and had bruises on her hand. She replied, “I wanted to wait for you, but he insisted that we leave, and I just told him to go, but he wouldn’t listen. He was taking me by force.”
Anger boiled up in me, and I held him by the collar with one hand. I had a few inches of advantage over him and compared to my strong physique, his lean body couldn’t resist. I threw a few punches at him, but I could hear my mom crying and telling me to stop.
Caren also came running and told me to stop, but I couldn’t control my anger. I know I was angry at my mother for not telling me and for marrying this trash, but I wouldn’t just sit and watch when someone abused her. Seeing her cry made me even more angry.
Both Caren and my mom pulled me back, and Caren then slapped me. “Lucas, you are killing him!”
I staggered back and stood there. Then she said, “Take your mother home first.”
Caren walked to my mom and talked to her, calming her down. Soon, Mother walked to the man and threw the ring at him. She came to me and said, “I’m sorry that it had to come to this, Lucas.”
Caren patted my back and said, “You need to go home and have a talk with your mother, all right?”
Caren gave us a lift. After reaching our home, my mom got out first and I told her I would send off Caren and come in.
After she left, Caren said, “That was some chaotic drama.”
“Yeah, I don’t understand how she could not see it. That man was a total opportunistic bastard. I am sure he trapped for my dad’s insurance money.”
“Language, young man.” I could hear her sigh heavily. She continued, “I didn’t think our sweet time would finish this quickly.”
“Sorry, Caren.”
“It’s not a problem. I will be leaving for business again, so until then, sort out your affairs, and we will meet again.” Then she kissed me, like a lover, holding my face.
I could see my mother standing in the doorway with her eyes wide.
Caren pulled back and said, “Bye, Lucas.”
I stepped back from the car and she drove off.
Walking slowly towards the door, I could feel my mother’s narrowed gaze. She asked, “What did I just see?”
“Well, it is what it is.”
“Lucas!”
“I didn’t ask why you married him, so you should also do the same, Mom.”
